Since 2007, we have engaged more than 60,000 volunteers in planting 640,000 native trees, adding approximately 3,000 acres of tree canopy and wildlife habitat statewide. Our annual community tree planting event has become the largest such annual event in America. Each year, we collaborate with the Tennessee Division of Forestry and the East Tennessee Nursery to provide locally grown native bare-root seedlings at a low cost to Tennessee residents.
UT Extension Offices and/or Master Gardener groups are invited to participate by hosting a county-level pick up site for participants to pick up their trees and shrubs of their choice. Our goal is to have at least 1 site per county. It is extremely beneficial to have volunteers on site that are knowledgeable about local plants and growing conditions.
Local offices can choose either Friday, March 20th during regular business hours (generally, the choice for Extension offices) and/or Saturday morning, March 21st (perfect for Master Gardeners needing service hours) to serve their community.
We offer 50 FREE native trees as a token of our appreciation!
We hope to partner with a record number of UT Extension Offices this year. The return on this contribution is a lifetime of benefits that will grow for generations.
