January's Topics:
-Weed Wrangle: Removing Invasive Plants
-Why do Tree Die? Basic Tree Physiology
with host Jennifer Smith

Weed Wrangle® is a citywide, volunteer effort to help rescue public parks, green spaces and yards from invasive species through hands-on removal of especially harmful trees, shrubs, vines and flowering plants. The Garden Club of Nashville started the program in 2014.  Cayce McAlister will tell us what Weed Wrangle is, how it started, and how you can be involved. Weed Wrangle is now in 18 states working to stop the spread of invasive species!

Additionally, we have a presentation by forester Dr. Dave Mercker from the University of Tennessee Extension Service. His talk is from a popular series “Back Porch Forestry” on “Why do Trees Die?.” David notes to understand how a tree dies you have to know how they live which is known as tree physiology. Host Jennifer Smith thinks this subject is the basis of all things trees and once you understand how trees work, your appreciation of trees will never be the same!
